Baltic Sea Region

The 49th cross-border Pan-European Days in Szczecin, Poland, and Greifswald, part of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, organised by the Pan-European Union Germany together with the Pan-European Union Poland from 12 to 14 May 2023, were all about a future European security architecture, the geostrategic situation in the Baltic Sea region and regional cooperation.

The guests came not only from Germany and Poland, but also from Ukraine, France, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Lithuania and the Czech Republic.

The international president of the Pan-European Union, Alain Terrenoire from Paris, expressed his ‘gratitude to Poland for its human, political, military and financial commitment to Ukraine’.

The President of the Pan-European Union Germany, Bernd Posselt, recalled one of his predecessors, the Adenauer Minister Hans Joachim von Merkatz, who was a native of Pomerania and had always emphasised the supranational function of his old homeland.

The political part of the ‘Pan-European Days’ culminated in an international symposium in the historic university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald.
