Communication on the Pan-European Commitment

In light of recent geopolitical events—the NATO summit with the U.S. President, the intensification of Putin’s war in Ukraine, the conference with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the trade negotiations on customs tariffs with President Trump, and the dramatic escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict—Honorary President Alain Terrenoire has issued the following Communication on the Pan-European Commitment.

Communication on the Pan-European Commitment

With 27 Member States, 450 million consumers, one of the highest standards of living in the world, and an open but strictly regulated market, the European Union should have acted as an independent power.

However, in light of recent major events – the NATO summit with the U.S. President, the intensification of Putin’s Russia war in Ukraine,  the conference with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the trade negotiations on customs tariffs with President Trump, and the dramatic escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict –  the European Union has not only proved incapable of asserting its legitimate interests and core values, but has also been humiliated and disrespected.

One hundred years after the founding of the Pan-European Union by Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi, this situation, which is unacceptable to Pan-Europeans, must mobilise us all the more, as it clearly shows that the European Union still lacks the political institutions necessary to assert itself and command respect.

It is our responsibility, without delay, to speak out and take action, wherever we may be, to give even greater meaning than in the past to our Pan-European commitment, in accordance with history, our culture and European civilisation.
