Letter to the President of Georgia

After the meeting of the Presidency Council of the International Pan-European Union on 27 October 2024 in Split, during which the current political situation in Georgia was discussed, President Alain Terrenoire and Secretary General Pavo Barišić sent the following letter of support to Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili.

President of Georgia
Ms Salome Zourabichvili

Paris / Zagreb, 30 October 2024

Madam President,

Following the talks held in recent days with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman, the Presidency Council of the International Pan-European Union, at the meeting in Split, expressed particular concern about the seriousness of the political events in Georgia.

Knowing from experience the widely shared desire of the Georgian people for their country to join the European Union, we contest, in the strongest terms, the rigged result of the parliamentary elections by the government authorities.

The Pan-Europeans demand their rectification, in accordance with the rules and practices of democracy.

In solidarity with the Georgian people, we send you our most ardent wishes and our sincere encouragement to resist the pressures and threats of the Tbilisi government.

Please accept, Madam President, with our respectful tributes, the expression of our highest consideration.

Alain Terrenoire, President of the International Pan-European Union and Honorary Member of the National Assembly and of the European Parliament

Pavo Barišić, Secretary General International Pan-European Union and Former Minister
