Pan-European Idea for Victory and Peace in Ukraine
On 11 and 12 October 2024, the Pan-European Union of Ukraine organised an international conference in Chernivtsi entitled ‘Pan-European Idea for Victory and Peace in Ukraine’. Speakers from Ukraine, Sweden, Austria, Germany, France, Croatia, Spain and Romania took part in the conference, which was attended by a large audience including many young Pan-Europeans and students as well as the media.
The conference took place at the Yuri Fedkovych National University of Chernivtsi and in the magnificent Palace of the Chernivtsi City Administration.
The main organiser of the conference was the head of the Pan-European Union of Ukraine for the Bukovina region Iryna Prodan. The panel discussions were moderated by Ihor Zhaloba, President of the Pan-European Union of Ukraine, and Oksana Prodan, Advisor to the Chairman of the Association of Ukrainian Cities.
The following topics were discussed during the panel discussions: 1. Pan-European values in times of war and in the euro-integration of Ukraine, 2. respect for human rights during martial law: balancing theory, practice and challenges, 3. combating disinformation in times of war: balancing freedom of speech?, 4. unity of Europe in protecting Ukraine as a foundation for peace in Europe and the world.
The Secretary General of the International Pan-European Union, Pavo Barišić, took part in the panel discussion, welcomed on behalf of the President Alain Terrenoire and the International Pan-European Union and conveyed the following message from the International President.
Dear President of Paneurope Ukraine, Ihor Zhaloba,
Dear Iryna Prodan,
Dar Pan-European friends!
I had planned to take part in the Pan-European Conference in Chernivtsi to reiterate the International Pan-European Union's absolute and unconditional support for Ukraine's resistance to the aggression it is suffering from Russia. Unfortunately, family commitments prevent me from joining you.
Ever since Putin's threatening speech in Munich in 2007, we have never ceased to alert European political leaders and public opinion to the risks that the Russian President was deliberately running to the peace so dearly won in Europe.
Since 2008, this disciple of Stalin has been implementing his imperialist pretensions, which have already fallen victim to Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. Russia's warlike and neo-colonial ambitions will only stop if a free and democratic Europe, of which Ukraine is a full member, puts a firm and definitive stop to them. This is why the International Pan-European Union expressly asks the governments of the European Union to do everything in their power to provide the political and military support that will enable Ukraine to fully recover its internationally recognised territory.
I wish the Chernivtsi Pan-European Conference every success.
Alain Terrenoire, President of the International Pan-European Union
